| Here are some cool scenic shots of tourist activities to enjoy here in Nicaragua. There are heaps of cool things to do in this country even if you do not surf or fish. |
 This is a good perspective shot on how big the crater on Masaya is. I have lived in Nicaragua for a long time and this was the first time I made it up here. I was very surprised by the size of this thing. It's last eruption was only in the 70's, even though it is still active.  Here is a market in Catarina. This whole town is filled with artesian crafts to purchase.  There are all kinds of trinkets here that hardly cost anything!  Here is a shot of the mirador in Catarina. You can see for miles and miles. There are several cool local restaurants to grind on local fare here as well.  This is a crater lake that was formed by all the volcanic activity many years ago. In the distance you can see the colonial city of Granada.  Here is the "Deer Lookout" on the way up to the craters on Volcan Masaya. We did not see any deer, but apparently there come out in the morning.  Here we are looking into the crater of Volcan Masaya. All of the smoke is sulfur vapors escaping from the middle of the crater. It is some pretty bad smelling stuff!  Looks like Mars or something.  Another good perspective shot  The Fam!!  The hike back down to the truck  My favorite is the part about getting under your truck if an eruption starts. Forget that, I am getting in it and hauling ass!!! |
