| The Doofus Brothers were back in action today and this time they meant business. We went out and got them on some great waves in the morning and then they were ready to go out and knock down some fish. We trolled for a while and got a couple of bites with not too much action. As we were cruising, I spotted a giant beehive of birds a couple of miles north of us. Upon arrival, I realized that we had hit the jackpot. This could have been the heaviest Mackeral rally I have ever seen. There were schools of threadfin everywhere and there were also schools of a different smaller bait called "buchonas". Mackeral, Jacks, and Roosters were ravaging bait all over the place. We could only troll two lines because they were getting hammered instantly. The Doofus Brothers did not back down even for a second. They kept reeling in fish and slamming them into the box. Our buddy Marc Brown saw us in front of his house and decided to come out and spearfish one of the bait pods. A little while later, Marc called us on the radio and said he had speared a nice one. We cruised over toward the beach, and he held up a nice rooster. We cheered from the boat and then we headed to get some more Macks. After we started trolling, we saw that Marc had headed back for round two on the spearfishing. He swam way out to where we were trolling, with his longboard, speargun, float buoy, and knife. About that time I noticed he swam into one of the thick bait balls. Shortly after, I realized that he was waving us over. We pulled the lines and went to check it out. On the way over, I realized he was doing some serious battle. The fish kept pulling him under and dragging him all over the place. After a gnarly brawl, Marc bearhugged the tail-shot rooster fish and it was thrashing all over the place with a spear sticking out of it. I was freaking that he may get stabbed. Then he pulled some crazy OJ tactics and pulled out his knife and started going to town on the beast. We finally got the monster on board and got these great shots for you to check out. We have since formally inducted Marc onto team SUBU for his courageous efforts in the battlefield! In the end we finished with 37 Macks, 5 Jacks, and some Bo Bo’s. One of the Macks was possibly the biggest in Surfari history, it went 12.2 lb gutted; this would take the entire weight into the 13’s. I am not sure, but I was told the World Record is 14lb for the Cero Mackeral record. If that is true, it is possible that the record could be swimming in Nicaraguan waters! What a standout day down here in Nica!!! |
