| Today we had a special treat for the students of La Escuela Primaria del Astillero (Primary School of El Astillero). We had a group a few weeks back from California who was able to link up a wonderful donation of school supplies through their contacts with the Culver City Rotary Club. Craig Ferre was the group organizer who worked for the months prior to his trip getting donations and support from all over his area and contacts with Rotary. Unfortunately, last minute, Craig was unable to make the trip down to Nicaragua, but still managed to have his crew lug down all of the school gear to donate to the kids of El Astillero. Tim Sullivan, Jeff Snyder and Joe Davidson who were here with us in May rounded out the Craig Ferre group of Rotarians. Here we have some pictures of the donation being delivered to the school in El Astillero. The school director was extremely grateful for the aid in supplies and uniforms, and allowed all of the kids to leave class for a photo with the donated gear. Notebooks, pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, paper, crayons, games and school uniforms were all a part of the extremely well received package. For anyone else who would like to get involved with helping the local schools with much needed supplies, please contact us at surfaricharters@hotmail.com to see what we can put together. Thanks so much to Craig, Tim, Jeff, Joe and all of their contacts at Rotary Club for the kind help given to the local Nicaraguan children. |
